Hello

I woke up this morning thinking about writing this letter to you, and the two Quests I will do this weekend, and it was such a good feeling. A mix of intrigue, excitement and museful mental doodling. So good.

I’m not going to pretend for a second that this is how I wake up every day. But what is true is that this is a cocktail of feelings that I repeatedly associate and experience with all things Questful.

It’s a world away from how I used to feel in my various goal setting and self-improvement endeavours! 1000 times better. Yes. 1000. It used to feel THAT BAD.

Who wants to drink a cocktail of judgement, recrimination and disapproval, even if it’s disguised as discipline, and ‘improves you’? No thank you.

So let’s get Questful!

Sidenote: I went to a talk by a very smart person, about the Equinox. I learned the terms ‘tidal-locking’ and ‘orbital occlusion’, and also the next day…

Why sun do this?

What I took here?

Sun doing what?

Aliens coming? 😮

Questful Quotes

‘You can miss your stop, you can miss your train, but don’t miss out on your life!’

— Danielle (March 2026)

With all the tech devices we have in our hands, it’s easy to miss out on being in our physical environment, and connected to it.

Ask me how I know!

Last night, at the end of a long week, I was so far in Slack-message-land that I missed my tube stop, overshot, had to double back and missed my train home.

Yes, there was a later, slower train and I got back to the South West eventually. But GAH!!!

By the time my husband picked me up from the station, I shuffled into the passenger seat of our car, and stared through the windscreen, zombie style. Even in my bleary-eyed state, my watching the world paid off. As we neared home, I suddenly yelled: OH LOOOOOOOK!

Fortunately, he’s used to my exclamations, and didn’t crash. He patiently pulled over and stopped so I could fully take in this sight:

(Mooching horse. More nearby. They have their routes. Not lost, just exploring.)

A horse under a lampost!

DELIGHTFUL!

Worth pulling over for.

Worth stopping to take it in.

Worth taking a moment to truly observe it, and experience it—even when more than tired, and a little ratty and over it.

You can miss your stop.

You can miss your train.

But don’t miss out on your life.

QUEST-ions

Thanks for your Quest-ions. I now have a very fun list. (You’re also welcome to hit reply, and ask away too.)

This month I’ll answer this one:

How do you get it done and make it fun when you’re working for a company where everything is on fire?

Firstly, I hear you!

My own take, and I don’t say this lightly, is that in these kinds of situations, it becomes even more important to have pockets of time, however small, that are truly designed to be FOR YOU….

…To be your own personal version of fun, meaningful, energising, rewarding.

Designing for this is a post in itself! But I will share the following nuts and bolts example of how I fit it into my life. (It’s different for each of my Questful participants.)

I am committed to doing my weekly Quest: 100 places, 300 pages. It takes me about 30 mins to write them, on the weekend. Super doable for me.

I have the reminder in my diary as the first thing of the week. Not because I do it on a Monday, but because it really matters, to to me. I know its coming, and I’m excited for it! I’ve designed it that way.

And still, as you can see from that recent diary reminder, there are weeks where I roll a Quest forwards, because LIFE. WORK. FIRES.

This weekend I’ll do 2 Quests—place 33 and 34. I’m tired from the week, but still really want to do them because they’re designed to be fun and doable, for me.

E.g. This weekend it’s a fun focus to take a little more time and go out adventuring. But plenty of weekends I’ve done them within a 5 minute radius of my house! And it’s still been awesome.

Little pockets of time adding up. Each one was a place, 3 pages.

Thank you for asking this question!

Next time, I’ll answer another great question— about creativity, AI and Quests!

Gems:

Last night I received a fun thank you gift in my e-mail. A National Book Token. Today I get to walk into my local bookstore, scan the shelves, and leave with pretty much any book I fancy. Super cool, no?!

I actually don’t know what I’m going to pick, which makes it even more exciting. A whole world of books for me to browse. Things I might cook. Things I might learn. Fictional worlds I might fall in love with, that might spark new insights and adventures.

Take this one:

Brilliantly written. I loved it in all ways AND it made me even more curious about PARROTS and ITALY.

Will parrots and Italy make their way into my Questful life? If I set might sights on them, YES because WHY NOT.

All sparks count.

Fun.

If you need help figuring out what you truly fancy exploring, just let me know.

Questful prompt:

What’s one thing you might be interested in, that’s a fun spark, not a should?

Until next time,
